Is it ok to hang a 12"H chandelier in my front hallway, with only 8 foot ceilings ?
I hate flush mounts and want something more interesting. A lot of semi-flush mounts hang about 11-12" anyway, so I thought a little simple chandelier with candelabra bulbs would be nicer. I'm worried that (allowing a couple inches for chain, etc) having only 6'10" of headroom will look tight to walk underneath. Any suggestions are welcome.

Sure...or you can go with pendant lighting as well...chandelier, pendant,,,foyer swag lamp with chunk glass and black iron rectangular light is very suave and would accent the hallway nicely...as well as a simple chandelier...you can adjust chain length so it's not over bearing...There's some pretty cool looking pendant lights that are not hanging down so low but more focussing on horizontal expansion in their design...this would add some dramatic effect while still maintaining the integrity of your ceiling's height...so as not to insite clostrophobic feelings when passing underneath...my suggestion is you temporarily hang a windchime or mobile in that space and see if it is an overbearing feeling...just to "try it on"...before investing money, time, labor and the ensuing hole in the ceiling for electrical... in a foyer light...

This beautiful heart shaped diamond pictured here is set in a custom made 18K two-tone diamond semi-mount micro pave style, just goes towards individual style. A couple walked into the store with a unique and distinct vision, we sat down and on paper designed a stunning semi mount then they went and picked a heart shaped diamond to be set in the ring. I can tell you that I can count with one hand the amount of heart shaped diamonds I’ve sold in the last decade. They are not for everyone but in the same note it does not lessen their beauty and appeal. It just speaks for individualism.
In a day and age where we are constantly being classified or forced into certain brackets, I say screw that, be an individual, make a statement, be your own person. Just because your sister got a round diamond set in a solitaire setting doesn’t mean you have to get that. If your mom doesn’t like your choice of a radiant cut diamondits okay, trust me it won’t be the only choice in your life she disagrees with. If your family insists that you use the family jeweler but you’re more comfortable with a jewelry store or online company you are familiar with the I recommend buying from them.
What I’m driving at is that marriage is a highly individual choice and so should the diamond engagement ring that you choose to go along with it. So when you are out shopping, don’t be pressured into anything, be comfortable and make a well reasoned choice. I’m not saying that it needs to take a long time to make a decision; it just needs to be a choice that fits your individualism.
