dwarf hamster pups????
my dwarf hamster gave birth exactly a week ago and her pups dont have enough hair like they are supposed to.they are still a little pink.they look like they are only 5 days old.why???and also why are did my hamsters not come out mixed???the father is a red eyed argente and the mom is a platinum opal.why did she give birth to a red eyed argente,and 2 platinum opals???(1 of the platinum opal hamster is going to look exactly like the mom and the other one is going to look almost the same except it has more gray spots)
i know its to long but please try to answer both questions if you can
if your mother dwarf hamster is stilll young (under 1 year old) then her pups were most likely under-developed, so they can be very small, or just take a longer time to grow, dwarf hamsters usually have full body hair around day 6, but it can take some pups longer or shorter time to grow hair depending if the mother is young or has birthed before
the hamsters don't always come out "mixed" like you said, if you have done 9th grade biology, you will understand that recessive and domiant allels will affect the phenotype, or look of the hamster, unless there allels are both dominant allels, they won't come out mixed, the hamsters will probably look exactly, or almost the same as one of the parents when they grow up, just maybe spots are in different places or may have more spots, in other words, it is very hard for the hamster colors to mix and make a mixed hamster, is almost always comes out looking like one of the parents
