I want to know what kind is the least toxic, and most biogradable or the kind you mostly like and why you choose this type?

Heat and exposure to air results in the base metal alloying ingredients forming oxides that discolor the item. An acid pickle solution removes these oxides. For Gold filled and sterling silver I have had the best results with a 10 to 15% nitric acid solution though a similar sulphric acid solution works ok as well. Sulphuric acid is easier to find (battery electrolyte is available premixed and doesn't need much dilution). Dilute nitric acid can be dissposed of directly on the ground (it's a fertilizer) and will be quickly neutralized. Disposal requirements vary depending on where you are but you should be talking about very small amounts. Well diluted and neutralized with baking soda you can probably just pour exhausted solution down a sink drain. There are no nontoxic chemicals, only nontoxic doses. Proper ventilation and safe handling/storage/labeling methods are always necessary. Never add water to acid, always add the acid SLOWLY to water. It WILL get HOT. And it will eat holes in your clothes, or you, when you spill it.
