Oh Precious Lord,
divine potter of my soul,
I ask not the sterling beauty
of the silver chalice
that reflects the beams
of your Glory
upon the souls of men,
for I am the earthen jar
crafted in simplicity;
now scarred and broken
from many years of service.
But fill my cup, oh Lord,
and let your brightness flow
through the many cracks in vessel,
so that I appear as a “sparkle”
to the eyes of men.
And when they ask
how it is that common clay glistens,
your light shining through me
just as I am,
will not draw men to the vessel
. . . .but to the light that is within.
